CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A motorcyclist died Sunday evening after driving into a tree in northeast Charlotte, according to police.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to Breezewood Drive around 6:30 p.m. in reference to a personal injury crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers found a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and its severely injured rider near the corner of a Breezewood Drive residence.

Medic arrived and pronounced the motorcyclist, identified as 42-year-old Ramon Sims, dead at the scene.

Through an investigation, it was determined that the Suzuki was traveling southeast on Breezewood Drive when it ran off the road to the right and traveled through the front yard of the residence, striking a tree. Neighbors and family members of the Sims called 911.

Police said Sims was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown, but test results are pending.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
