ALEXANDER CO., N.C. — Deputies say human remains connected to a missing Alexander County man were found in a wooded area close to thirty yards off of Sulphur Springs Road on Monday.
Investigators estimate the body had been dead for a number of weeks after it was located and due to the level of decomposition, the body was not immediately identified.
Members of the Hiddenite Volunteer Fire Department discovered the body while assisting in the ground search for a missing person, Kenneth Dale Walker, 54, who was reported missing on February 24th.
During the search, Fire Department members located the remains and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
The remains were discovered less than a mile away from the missing person’s home on Sulphur Springs Road, according to a news release.
On Wednesday, an autopsy was performed at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Results indicate that the human remains located in the Hiddenite community are the remains of missing Kenneth Walker.
Anyone with more information on this case is asked to call the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office at 828-632-1111 or Crimestoppers at 828-632-8555.
