HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A former Hopewell High School teacher was arrested earlier this week on charges for sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers arrested Drayton Gilyard, 47, on Monday, February 21st for his alleged crimes.

CMS officials confirm Gilyard was an ROTC instructor at Hopewell High.
Officials say he was hired on July 8th, 2019, suspended on January, 19th 2022, and submitted his resignation on February 18th, 2022.
