SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The third annual Painted Ponies Art Walk is underway in Southern Pines, NC (an easy two-hour drive from Charlotte). The Painted Ponies are a public art display that benefits the Carolina Horse Park Foundation. The art walk started in January and runs through the end of March. 15 Painted Ponies line Broad Street for visitors to enjoy as they walk through downtown.
“The Carolina Horse Park is proud to once again bring the Painted Ponies Art Walk to downtown Southern Pines. It demonstrates our commitment to our local businesses and artists while also highlighting our equestrian heritage and community,” said Bryan Rosenberg, chairman of the board for the Carolina Horse Park. “The Art Walk has been a phenomenal community effort. We look forward to visitors and residents enjoying the Painted Ponies while they line Broad Street and generously supporting the online auction on April 9.”
This year’s collection includes 9 large horses and 6 smaller colts. After the Art Walk ends, the ponies will be auctioned off on Saturday, April 9th. The link to the auction site is here. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Carolina Horse Park Foundation. The CHP Foundation was established to support a 315-acre, nationally recognized, premiere equine competition venue and land preserve located in Hoke County, NC. Founded in 1998 as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization by equestrian enthusiasts, CHP is dedicated to the preservation of open space for equestrian events, as well as educational and recreational purposes. Local businesses sponsor the Painted Ponies, which are placed at 15 locations in downtown Southern Pines. Artists from the region donate their time and talent to transform the fiberglass ponies into works of art.
