Bitter cold has made itself at home in the Carolinas this week, and although a brief rainy reprieve has come this Sunday, the freeze returns as soon as Monday night. Expect scattered showers, which may be heavy at times, to continue through sunset before largely tapering off by midnight. A few clouds may stick around south and east of the Metro waking up for the first day of the workweek, but plentiful sunshine returns by the afternoon.
Despite the blue skies, below-average temperatures regain their grip on the region. Expect highs to struggle to get out of the 40s through midweek, while lows will find themselves in the teens and 20s across the board. In fact, the coldest air we’ve seen since early February 2021 could arrive Tuesday night. Temperatures eventually return to near-normal values by the second half of the week. Rain chances remain few and far between for much of the week ahead.
