CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was fatally shot in southwest Charlotte early Saturday morning, sparking a homicide investigation, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Around 3:30 a.m., police officers heard shots fired in the area of Hillgrove Lane, off of Steele Creek Road, and responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities located several casings in the parking lot and a man suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead inside an apartment at the scene by Medic, according to police.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
