IREDELL CO., N.C. — Troopers say I-40 West in Iredell County near Old Mountain Road closed on Friday after a large piece of concrete from the bridge over Beulah Road fell and created a hole in the overpass.
The N.C. Department of Transportation has since set up a detour directing traffic from Stamey Farm Road (Exit 145) to U.S. 70 West and back onto the interstate via Sharon School Road (Exit 141).
Transportation officials are currently assessing the bridge and needed repairs, and say the road closure is expected to remain in place through Monday, October 25th.
Officials say significant travel delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to follow the detour or find an alternate route.
