A severe weather outbreak will impact the Deep South over the next two days before heading toward the Carolinas

Discussion:
An area of high pressure will shift eastward off the Carolina coast Tuesday. We will stay dry, but see more clouds on Tuesday. Our next weather system is a very powerful one that is currently located over Texas. This system will bring severe weather to the Deep South on Tuesday as there is now a Moderate Risk (level 4 of 5) for severe storms across portions of Louisiana and Mississippi. Damaging winds and strong long-track tornadoes are likely in that area. As this system tracks eastward, it brings the potential for severe weather to the Carolinas. Day 3 from the Storm Prediction Center has the WCCB Charlotte area under a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) – this is for Wednesday. The only area not under this risk is the Mountains where there is a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5). This could certainly change as confidence with the forecast grows over the next 24-hours. Northwest flow snow is possible in wake of Wednesday’s system for the higher elevations in the mountains, but most of us will clear out and dry out through late morning Thursday.

Tonight:
Calm and partly cloudy. Low temperatures bottom out in the mid 40s.

Tuesday:
Partly sunny. Highs in the low to mid 70s. Staying dry.

Wednesday:
An unsettled day as a strong front pushes across the region. Damaging wind and isolated tornadoes are possible at this time. Timing will be key – if the line of storms hold off until the afternoon, our severe weather threat could increase due to more energy from daytime heating. Timing and the greatest threat will come into focus in the next 24-hours. Be sure you stay up to date on this threat and have at least two ways to receive warnings.

Thursday:
Early showers possible – this depends on the timing of the front. Highs will top out in the upper 60s.

Friday:
Sunny skies. Highs in the mid 60s.

Weekend:
Drier and cooler weekend with high temperatures in the mis 60s Saturday and near 60 Sunday.

Have a great week!

Kaitlin
